My parents had our basement all hippied-out when we were really young. There were psychadelic posters on the walls and a huge braided rug on the floor. There was also a 'bar' with a crazy hanging lamp. The lamp was metal but had marbles stuck in holes in the metal. By the time we were grown up most of the marbles had fallen (or been pryed) out of the lamp - so it was then a metal lamp full of holes. I once dared a friend to stick her finger into the socket. She did, and she got jolted.....
The other side of our basement was turned into a dance floor. There were green and white linoleum tiles, a ballet bar, and floor to ceiling mirrors all along one wall. We were in dance class and apparently we needed a place to practice at home.... My sister had a pink legwarmer up on the wall that had 'dance' printed on it and there were a few ballet posters up there too. On the light fixture over the ballet bar we had stuck a oiley bear sticker, which popped open and eventually left an oil streak beneath it. I remember that we left the sticker there when we moved out.
If anyone ever wonders why all of the tiles came up on that floor it is because my friend, Missy Wilson, and I poured bubbles all over the floor and turned the basement into a sort of slip-n-slide one night. Then the tiles started to come up..... Good thing mom never knew that.....
I don't remember alot about this but I do remember that my mom had a long countertop where she grew orchids in the basement.....
